200 Turbo: several electrical problems, need schematics

Hello 200 collectors,
I am living in France and bought one 200 Turbo this summer (first owner registered it in february 1987; 200000 km), and could have my local VW/Audi garage replace the distribution belt (and the ignition coil and distributor that failed when they tested the engine), but they do not have genuine wheel bearings and do not want to work with generic parts. My bearings are noisy when driving straight and even more when turning, it sounds it is time to replace all of them.
Then there are minor things to repair. Would it be useful to buy the expensive official repair manual in english (found on Amazon or MSN-Shopping) ? I don't know if it deals with my 1987 model too because the title says 1989-91... I need advice to fix the following problems:
-window motor is sometimes almost stuck on driver's door, I have to stop and grab the top of the glass with my right hand to help the electric motor before the security stops it, and there are bad scratching sounds inside.
-air conditioner does not produce cool air at all. How to check the compressor ? Is there a compatible replacement gas that is more environment-friendly ?
-all lights of air control unit often go off if I use heating. It could be a bad wiring (I found several wires that have been badly hacked, and a fuse or two blown in the fuse box under the hood, in the radio bay when I installed my radio/cd unit from my previous car).
-no power in rear cigarette lighter socket despite a good fuse.
-bad electrical contact on lighting around passenger's mirror

congratulations to your new, old car ;)

Let me try to help you a little bit:

The bearings should be replaced with good ones as soon as possible. They're safety relevant and you'd better don't use shabby ones. FAG, SKF and INA wil be ok. Replacement is fairly easy, provided the shop got a hydraulic press.

Renewing the ingintion will popbably make the car run smoother and stronger. With an old car, especially a turbo, this is always a good idea.

My 2cnts: Take a deep look at those black hoses around the engine. They shold be thight and fixed on every single mount. If you've got one little leak, you'll lose 50% of your engine's power. Keep an eye on this. ;)

Audi 200 Turbo: no headlights

Help ! My headlights suddendly stopped working, both high and low. Only the flash knob still lights them together, so I had to drive by night one hour in the rain with only the fog lights, and pulled the flash command when needed :(. The fuses and bulbs are good. How to check the assembly of contacts that is below the steering wheel around its column ? Has anyone the electrical schematics and could scan them for me ? Thanks.

Take of the Steeringwheel,disconnect and take of the Switches,
disassemble carfully don´t loose the copperparts and springs and
clean the contacts inside carefully with sandpaper,
then they should work again.

Thats a common problem that the switches stop working.
because the current goes throug the switch without a relay
there you also loose somtimes up to 2-3 volts!
But you can buy the relay coversion kit from Olli W. in his shop,
the headlights will be more powerfull.
