I have a Audi 100 bezine, 5 cylinder, automatic gear, 1986. My problem is a loss of oil from the automatic gear. At the right side of the gear visible when you look underneath the car, their is a rond closing, from which the loss of oil comes. We want to replace a ring so that the problem is resolved. But we do not find the proper instructions for doing so. If you have any hint, please mail them to me or reply on this post. Many thanks!

Hi,
i asume, you mean the loss of oil comes out of the round cover plate, where the drive axle is bolted to.
If this is the case, you´ll have to remove the inner drive axle mount first, then the cover plate and finally the sealing ring inside.
There are two sealing rings - one is a large O-ring type seal, which normally is not defect. Second one is inside the differential and that is the one to look for.
To replace this, you´ll have to loose the drive axle mount (6mm Allen bolt) first, then finally the ring itself.
It might not be a bad idea to replace the large O-ring from the cover plate too, though in most cases not necessary.
Part # 26 ist the seal to be renewed.
Greetings,
Olli
