no, no i have a audi 200 from UK, i want to swap the steering wheel, and i youst wanted to know how complicated is that to do!Petrus hat geschrieben:Hi,
why do you want to swap your wheels from right to left??
It is better, when you swap the wheels from front to rear.
If you swap from right to left, it can be that your car turns then to the right or left.
yes, thats totaly right!Fuenftopf hat geschrieben:Ich denke, er meint damit nicht die Räder sondern das Lenkrad, also von Rechtslenker auf Linkslenker umbauen.
bis dann,
Jürgen

Hi
thats much too expensive if you wanna make this change. You have to buy a new steering unit, and to build a new ground platte to fit the whole pedals and the steering wheel. This metal box for the steering wheel is made of metal and a part of the whole cars body.
It´s much more easy to make this change if you have some other (german) audi 100.
But you have to fit the body.
Good luck

Hi Mad Dog,
maybe Kai has some ideas. But if somebody dont want help....
Its not only the few things. You have to change also all the wiring harnesses for the control panel, the brake-light switch and the window lifters.
I think there are more wiring harnesses wich you have to change.
The brake master cylinder is on the wrong side then. You can see, there´s a lot of work. So, its cheaper and easier to buy a left-hand drive Audi.
If you are searching for an Audi Quattro. Take a look in the used car market here in the forum.
Edit: The regular way to come into a new forum is to introduce yourself and your car. You will see, a lot more people will help you.

But you have to mention that your FWD audi 100 has other front lights as the 200 Turbo. If you want to build your UK 200 to a german one you have to buy some new german front lights.
But in my opinion it would be easier to buy a really german one. Let the UK one be one. But it´s much to hard to build this much to the other. And if it dont works your 200 is dead
But you can cut the tiles out of the body from the 100 and paste them to the 200. (The body parts behind the panel which holds it and the steering wheel)
The front lamps are to find about this Teilefmarkt at this Forum or at ebay.de.
And you can easily sell the not needed parts from the 100 at this Forum
I hope my englisch is good enough to understand:-) And i wish you much luck at your work

well u see, i will get this 200 turbo like for 40 euro's(yes 40 euro's), not more, its like in the price of a pair of sneakers! i have my 100 noturbo noquattro car, from which i can easely take the parts, but im not sure what do i have to do and how much complicated is that! in my country a 200 turbo quattro like this, with all the extras (leather interior etc.), but only the wheel on the left comes in about from 1200-1500 euro's! I have a quite of a dillema!
The list i have to do:
1)Steering unit
2)Pedals and fastening
3)Windshield wipers
4)Front dashboard(panel)
5) Window lifters, etc.
6)brake cylinder
7)Wireing ???
8 )the bonnet opener
9) the wall that sepparates the engine bay form the saloon (is that neccesary to change??)
well what else is in the list???

Hi Mad dog,
i would not even think about the swap, since there are too many body parts, that have to be taken over from a LHD donor car.
The most important one is the complete firewall, inkl. the upper crossmember piece behind the dash, that holds the steering column. As these things are structural, you´ll have to take 100% care, not to warp or twist the body, while replacing the parts.
Best thing: get yourself a LHD car and save a lot of work (& money) - otherwise, the result could not be forseen.
Did i mention, you´ll have to change all the brake lines, master cylinder & complete hydraulic assembly as well?
Cheers,
Olli

Hi Mad Dog,
I only received your priv. message now.
I think the previous posters have really said everything that you needed to know. To my mind, the most important point is what Olli has said: that the firewall of a LHD and a RHD are not the same. (This is point 9 on your list). If you remove the firewall and fit another one, then you're starting to mess with the structure of the chassis. Personally, I wouldn't even think about it. It's not going to stop at 40 Euros - not even 400!
Rather buy yourself a LHD 200.
BTW, the steering boss itself is not such a problem, I think, because the position of the switches is the same on a LHD and RHD (indicators and light on the left, wipers (and at least on the type 43, the hazard lights) on the right).
Last but not least, I agree with Petrus: one or two lines to introduce yourself and your car, go a long way in this forum.
