Audi 200 Avant 2.5 TDI quattro from Latvia

Hi everyone, few days ago a friend of mine told me about this forum, so i decided to register here too.
first, i want to introduce myself.
my name is Peteris Erglis (in english it would be Peter Eagle) and i am from Latvia - where is it - you can easily find it in google, its between Lithuania and Estonia. i was born in 1990 , so i'm 21 now. also, sorry, if i have some mistakes writing in english, i finished shchool some time ago and by the way - i do not work in service station, my car is only my hobby.

anyway, about 3 years ago i got my audi 200 avant.






and my favourite pic

all electro windows, leather interrior, the conditioner was already taken out, central lock didn't work, there ir rust in some places, but the car was great. only the engine was awful. it didnt run as it had to be, it choked, there was something with turbo pressure, ECU, and a lot of sensors were dead. so i thaught it woauld be a great idea to change engine.







now was the best time to choose an engine. but what to put in there? hmm, at first there was a idea to put in 2.3 liter atmospheric engine from audi 100 - engine code NF.



so i did it. but didnt enjoy it. so again too the engine out and decided, that this will be Diesel power car.

while looking for 2.5 tdi in good condition , found some cool things for my audi.

and made a self-made instruments



on my 20th birthday, went nearly 700 km far to buy donor car.



by the way, the puller is also 2.5 tdi quattro audi 200.
then, some time working with hands and there it is!

while making the wiring for ECU, made some good pictures




also, changed the brake system, from hydraulic , to vacuum powered. aud the steering mechanism from audi C4.
no the brakes ar smooth but strong, and the wheels turn easily and without problems.

so things went along and after some while


it RUNS!
made a 65mm exhaust, and went to CSDD (it is institution, that takes care, about cars who drives latvian roads etc. and every year you have to trough technical inspection in english - MOT) at first they didn't want to let me trough, because of the engine. because a year ago , if you change engine type from petrol to diesel, you had to go to architects to make a project, and only then you can go trough and it costs a lot of money, but finally , they took a look under the bonnet and now i can officially drive latvian raods with audi 200 DIESEL.

and thats not everything at all.

after some time, i had a lack of power, because engine code ABP - had only 115 HP.


hood idea, huh ?
then chiptuned ECU (by the way, when put my car together alrady cahnged my ecu to Ford Galaxy's 1.9 tdi. also the same from vw sharan, and audi a4 1.9 , beacuase it more faster and gives more power and it has a function to operate VNT turbine.) , also changed the fuel pumps electronical head, to more advanced , also from 1.9 tdi. and ordered from italy nozzles. Bosio Race. after putting this all on, and adjusting the turbo pressure to 2.5 bar , look what happened





also, the original turbine broke down.
put together again all, but this time with metallic gaskets, now works perfect.




the car has now about 230 hp, because a sandart audi s4 or s6 with 2.2 20VT stays looser.

dust stoppers are already in junk - took them off, tohegher with KG engine. you can see in last pictures

oh, and your car is also nice! soon im hoping to find fenders from 20V or sport quattro. but its really hard to find them in normal condition and price

Its a "Fronti" (no Quattro) and so it`s already maxed out with it`s MC Buergi Engine.

wow. always thaught , its strange that some FWD cars came out with big fenders, but they look really good. some time ago , i also found audi 100 with those fenders for only 400 euros, but someone had bought it 20 minuter atfer advertisment was published those things are really rare here.

oh and by the way, is the bottom of your car originally in gray colour? i think, is the whole car would be red, it will look perfect !

Hi,

well this car was retrofitted with 200 20V bumpers. The reason was much better protection against accidents. I even put U.S. shock absorbers behind them

The two tone paint is antrazite metallic protective car foil (much as on taxis etc) and will be removed with those bumpers, once the car becomes an Oldtimer

Does the car blows black clouds with the "little" dieseltuning?
How about the diesel consumption?
Do you still have this huge Intercooler?

thanks for your compliment , did my best on this car.
i took off big intercooler, because it was with holes and didn't want to fit in behind the bumber, still want to find smaller intercooler , but only with metallic ends, because plastic breaks off , when insufflate 2.5 BAR pressure.
the consumption is very nice, it's my main advantage against petrol audi's - in mixed cycle (half city, half highway) it is about 7 liters, that is including drag racing in fridays and sometimes giving it to the redline. the maximum that you can get is 12, but thats in some winter track, with pedal to the metal
and the smoke question - well usually, people either increases distance, either turns on window washers

Well, the car *is* painted in one color. The "grey" is car foil. And since that is not original, it all *has* to go once it ought to became an official oldtimer. That in 7 years.
(An oldtimer in Germany has a special registration plate, costs far less tax&insurance, but must be in good condition, absolutely original and 30+ years old.)

Isn`t that always the case? In German Audi has/had a marketing statement "Schöne Kombis heissen Avant", that is roughly "Nice stationwagons are called Avant"

From the Startline it looks like the car is getting twisted due to the torque of the eingine!

In some Areas of Germany you might get shoot by environmental activists if you hit the pedal and leave a soot track like this!

Of course you need a green sticker that tells that the car has minimum Euro1 with Petrol or Euro 3 with particle filter or Euro4 with a diesel engine,
to enter some areas in Germany.
(It has at least no sense, but the governmet wants to keep it,
that every stupid german buys a new car! )

hey fishman,
well the engine itself fitted in of course, but there are few things you will need to change, and the things, that are most hardest to find
first, both engine brackets

need from audi 100 with 1T engine (also 2.5 tdi)
air filter box from 1T

this detail from either 1T or 2.0 diesel

also from 1T
flywheel from 1T
and brackets that holds power steering pump and alternator - from 2.3 E
that's almost all. the hardest was to fint these all parts and to make wiring, because you'll need to put together old wiring with new TDI wiring.
and if you want to improve engine power, you will need to put on ECU from sharan/galaxy/a4 with 1.9 engine, and do some chiptuning to run it on 2.5.

finally found, what i was looking for. about 9 months , was daily searching for them in advertisments ar here they are!!





an audi 100 sport fenders. now only need some welding and paintjob. hope to paint the car in nacreous dark cherry red.

also , had sex with wiring. now every gadget, and absolutely all extras works , as it was 25 years ago.

My own car has a 2.0TD, so i think i can use those brackets. I want to use the six speed gearbox od the AEL. And i''m gonna build a mechanical TDI pump.

fishman, that mechanical pump is crap. you'll only have about 80 HP where you could get 140 HP with a standart ! better find someone to make the wiring right and put that ECU somewhere, because it's really worth it!

If you do it right, you can get up to 300HP out of a mech. pump.

have you saw 2.5 tdi with 300 HP ? i have, even 3 of those and mine is not far from that. believe me, i know what i'm saying, you need to make this all with wiring and ECU.
why do you think, gasoline drag and racing cars are equipped with VEMS or MEGASQUIRT , to be able program and operate engine , not with carburettor ?
with mech pump it will be torture to drive, believe me.

Lot''s of guys over here drive with a Mtdi. Thay say the response is even better dan with ECU.

it depends of what program do you have in ecu.
that's why i have 1.9 new type ECU, cause it's faster, better and giver what we all want the most - power. also this ecu have ability to control VNT turbines.
and with mech pump the problems you might have - in low rpm you will have enough fuel, but in high rpm's it will be too less. to avoid that, you will have to adjust the pump to more dose. this will cause that you will have enough fuel no high's , but in low rpm the engine will have too much fuel , what will cause much smoke and bigger consumption.

Hmm. sounds great! I just built a 2,5 inch stainless exhaust with open muffler. Sounds mean!

I first have to find a A6 donor car.... Not easy over here.

don't take a6! search for audi 100 2.5 tdi. (C4) with engine code AAT or better ABP - those engines don't have air mass meter and they are in better condition, cause they never had EGR valve, which gives some part of exhaust gas back to intake - bacause of this AEL's are more worn out and there might be some problems with launching it in winter -20.
also, ABP's have better oiling system, so put in ABP, buy AEL nozzles and you have the same AEL

hey man, sorry for my late answer. had a lot to do in the holidays.

and actually , i don't know , why lots of my pictures aren't showing here anymore.
under the panel i did put material, that's meant to put under floor laminate. it looked like a big roll of approx. 4 mm thin cloth.
now i have bought something better for the floor and doors.



also, have some news. paint is "Inferno Red Crystal Pearl"








found 200 20V bumpers. yet only have to put them on.
